With the risk of being called “basic”, I’m going to just come out and say it. I LOVE FALL! It’s always been my favorite season, though I do love living in a place where we have all four seasons (sometimes all in one day!). I love the chilly weather and the boots and scarves that come with it. I love the seasonal drinks (pumpkin spice, apple cider, and caramel everything!) I love the colors of the changing leaves against a bright blue sky. I love the crunch of dry leaves under my feet. I could go on for a while here, but you get it!
I enjoy decorating our home for a couple reasons. First, it’s just plain fun! It’s fun to use my creativity to arrange knick knacks, things from nature, and pieces of art together to make something beautiful. There’s something about blending colors, textures, and shapes into whole scenes that is enjoyable for me.
Decorating is also important to me because it’s a celebration of the time of year that we’re in. There’s something comforting about the cycle of months and seasons that we go through every year and it’s great to celebrate everything we love about the seasons! When I see all the variations between seasons, I see God’s wonderful creativity in everything. He’s a genius! And isn’t it just so good that He gives us ways to see Him in creation? Red leaves, orange pumpkins, brown acorns, blue sky, and green grass; it’s so cool that God picked so many colors to make our environment beautiful. I’ve already talked about the things I love about fall, and I like to bring all those things into our home to make it comfortable and beautiful too.
Fall decorations are about bringing natural elements to the indoors. I like to use a lot of texture, like natural wood, grapevine wreaths, and mixture of real and faux florals and berries, and burlap. I also use a lot of my own handmade signs and decor in our home. Some of them are for sale in my Etsy shop, like the wood signs, mini canvas, and the floral jars found on my mantel. I get the items from a lo of different places – the pumpkins are all from my MIL’s garden, and a lot of this stuff is from the dollar store and garage sales. A wonderful thing about decorating is that it doesn’t have to be pricey!
Thanks for taking a look around our home! I hope you have found some new ideas for seasonal decorating on a budget 🙂
