European Cottage — a Romantic Summer Photoshoot at Black Bird Farm
In your wedding planning, have you ever seen a photo and think “THIS! This is exactly what I envisioned. It’s perfect!”
That is exactly what crossed my mind when everything came together for this themed photoshoot. It has everything — romance, whimsy, a playful color palette, a setting bursting with flowers, and photos full of that golden-hour glow.
We began planning this photoshoot in order to display what a real wedding would look like out at Black Bird Farm with their new all-inclusive vendor team (including yours truly!) Of course, it’s a lot of fun putting together a creative vision then taking it from an idea to real life. But more than that, we wanted to serve our future couples by giving them visuals of exactly what they will be experiencing in their all-inclusive vendor package. Everyone is a visual learner to some degree, and it’s much easier to envision your own wedding when you see the space transformed from an empty barn into a real wedding ceremony and reception space.
So, I’d like to walk you through a wedding day through the lens of this photoshoot to show you around the venue and get to know the vendor team!
Throughout this post, almost all photos are from Sara Campbell Photography (and any that are not are labeled as such!) Find the complete vendor list at the link below, or scroll to the bottom of this blog post for links.
The beginning the biggest celebration day of your life should start with breakfast and getting ready time. In the farmhouse at Black Bird Farm there is room for everyone! The Groom and his men have a suite downstairs that’s all theirs for getting dressed and hanging out. The Bride and her maids (and the glam crew!) have the entire upstairs to prep and primp, complete with mimosas and a homemade brunch board.
While the Bride & Groom are getting ready, photographers will sometimes sneak away to capture portraits of the day-of details, including the couple’s invitation suite. I designed this suite around the blues and muted hues of an impressionist-style painting used in the envelope liner. Throughout the suite, you can see the intricate floral crest design and monogram bringing cohesion to the design. This luxury 4-insert suite features a main invitation, detail card, response card, and a hand drawn map to the venue. Ribbons in muted spring green and light blush tie the suite together, and everything is sealed with a calligraphed envelope ready to deliver and impress your guests. *The following flat lay photos are from Whimsically Warm.
When the Bride & Groom portraits start, there are so many photo spots available! Inside the farmhouse makes for cozy and intimate photos. The retaining wall and landscaped area gives a gorgeous view of the farmhouse behind. The fencing and the pasture sites are picturesque, providing the perfect light. Finally, their lounge setup under the mulberry tree, complete with furniture rentals from Aspen Jean Planning, makes for the perfect photo op.
While there are several ceremony sites to choose from, for this photoshoot we landed on the Retaining Wall site. Our ceremony setup included black crossback chairs nestled under a mature tree and was further beautified by aisle-way statement floral pieces from Rhonda Wolke Designs.
Inside the barn you’ll find soaring ceilings, authentic hand hewn beams, and romantic bistro lights strung the length of the main area. A unique statement piece is noticeable when you enter the barn — a seating chart wall with garden boxes flowing over with florals. The tables are draped in blue-hued garden oxford linens and scattered with floral arrangements and candle tapers. Guests’ places are set with simple china and crystal, and topped with hand scrolled calligraphy place cards.
Over at the bar, guests may enjoy specialty cocktails selected by the bride and groom including a raspberry champagne float (hers) and a peach bourbon smash (his). After dinner, the couple cuts into a gorgeous fine-art style cake from Spencer’s Sugar Shop. The handmade sugar flowers on this classic cake speak for themselves! Dessert is served with home style sweet treats from The Baking Company, including miniature pies and rustic galettes.
Some details deserve their own section, including the wedding gown and men’s formalwear, both from TWIRL bridal. Ivan looks dapper in a textured, muted blue suit and crisp white shirt! Monica wore a strapless gown with boning, floral appliqués, detached puff sleeves, and a gorgeous textured skirt that was made for twirling. Her hair is styled by Shelby from Signature Suite into an effortless bridal braid that looks polished and romantic all at once. Her natural beauty shines through and highlights her brown eyes with a subtle glam makeup look from Hayley Palmer Makeup.
As the sun sets and the photographers Sara Campbell Photography and Sami Rose Photo, and videographer Lindsay Kay Films all work hard to pose Monica & Ivan and capture the last few golden rays, we celebrate a successful photoshoot full of classical beauty!
